This city is often nicknamed "The Pearl of the East" because of the beauty of its surrounding landscape. It has a castle located on a high hill, towards the waterfront from the town with great vistas over the town and the lake, the Church of the Holy Cross and the great Lake Van with mountainous scenery and beautiful plants along the shore. The city is famous for its breakfast halls that distinguish it from other parts of Turkey.
